He beat his mother, who had to be hospitalized for her injuries, and then entered the Mirandela Hospital emergency room and demanded to see his mother, threatening to kill anyone who stopped him using a flare gun. The attacker, 50, escaped from the emergency room while the PSP was on his way – he was arrested a few meters ahead, on the Engeneiro Machado Vaz bridge.
The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon. Panic gripped the staff and doctors on duty at Mirandela Hospital’s emergency department, who were unaware at the time that the gun used by the suspect was not real. The security guard managed to leave the scene and notify the police. The suspect, who attempted to flee on foot, was eventually caught by the police and taken to the police station. He was later released and the case was sent to court.
The man is known to be aggressive and has several assault records, some involving domestic violence against his mother and others involving crimes against law enforcement officers.
