German businessman accused of prostituting minors risks being declared habitual

German businessman Matthias Schmelz, accused of crimes related to the prostitution of minors and enticement of minors for sexual purposes, has one month to appear in court on pain of being declared insubordinate.

The Lisbon County Judicial Court notice, signed this Thursday by Judge Barbara Churro, notifies the defendant known as the “Hoover King” to “appear in court within 30 days.” […] under penalty of punishment for failure to comply with this requirement, to be declared disobedient,” that is, to be considered a fugitive from justice.

Matthias Schmelz has national, European and international arrest warrants issued about a year ago following a decision by the Central Criminal Court (TCIC) to commit him to trial in absentia because he had not appeared before the authorities during this time.
