Chegi leader André Ventura said this Sunday that PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos cannot “continue to evade” questions about the accumulation of the functions of TAP CEO.
“He must clarify what he knew about this accumulation of functions, whether it was authorized by him and whether what is said by the aviation union, which at a meeting of the Ministry of Infrastructure reported that there was an illegal accumulation of functions by the Director General of TAP, is true, and despite this, he decided to keep her in his post and allowed her to continue working,” said Andre Ventura, speaking to reporters.
“This, in addition to qualifying as a criminal or other offense, is a huge lack of political responsibility,” he added.
The Chega leader was speaking in Angra do Heroismo, on the side of the street, on the first day of campaigning for the regional legislative elections in the Azores, which will be held on February 4.
Andre Ventura accused Prime Minister António Costa of “totally abdicating his responsibility” and Socialist legislative candidate Pedro Nuno Santos of remaining “silent.”
“As Pedro Nuno Santos wants us to trust him as Prime Minister of Portugal, when he was in charge of a much smaller component, namely infrastructure, he went from disorder to disorder to the last disorder, there were violations after violations and he was unable to take responsibility on this responsibility?” he asked.
On the day of the congress of the Democratic Alternative (the coalition that unites PSD, CDS-PP and PPM in the legislative elections on March 10), the leader of Chegi once again appealed to the president of the Social Democrats, Luis Montenegro, asking him to clarify the situation. Will he be able to “make the PS government viable” if the socialists win the elections, but the right has a majority in parliament.
“If the PSD has changed its mind about what it did in the Azores, and if it now thinks that even though there is a right-wing majority, with Chega, the PSD and the Liberal Initiative, the PS should govern, if it – This is the new thinking of the SDP. This should be clear,” he stressed.
At the congress, CDS-PP president Nuno Melo said that the “only government” that the Democratic Alliance would make viable was made up of these parties, and asked André Ventura “not to discriminate between the thoughts of others.”
“To be clear, the only government AD will make viable after March 10 will be an AD government when we win the election, after all the votes have been counted. This will be the only government that we will make viable,” he emphasized.
Andre Ventura, however, insisted that it was up to Luis Montenegro to say what he was about to do, arguing that the centrist leader “obviously wants to say that he didn’t say what he said.”
The Chegi leader added that PSD Secretary General Hugo Soares also said that “whoever wins must govern, even if the majority is on the right.”
