“Cruel and barbaric torture, cowardice and complete lack of remorse.” These are some of the expressions that the judges of the Court of Appeal of Évora wrote in the ruling confirming the maximum prison sentence for the four involved in the murder of Jessica Vizcaya on June 20, 2022 in Setúbal, including the girl’s mother: 25 years in prison.

“It would have been enough for any of them to pick up the phone, or leave the house and ask for help. (…) Although it is not established who exactly did what (due to the silence maintained by the defendant) Esmeralda and the negative position of Justo and Ana Cristina) , there is an omission that all defendants necessarily made: not stopping the brutal attacks,” the decision says.
Jessica was tortured for a week. There were more than a hundred injuries on his body. His face was disfigured and his head was naked. After picking up her daughter, it took Ines six hours to call INEM and her daughter was in agony.
