The President of Colombia has appealed for international help in fighting numerous forest fires that have devastated large areas in different regions of the country in recent days.
“All air force crews are deployed to fight fires in dozens of places across the country, but the Ideam forecast [instituto de meteorologia] indicates that the crisis will last throughout February and part of March. For this reason, I ordered the activation of international assistance protocols,” Gustavo Petro wrote on Wednesday on the social network account X.
Peter made the announcement as he published a Ministry of Defense report showing an Air Force UH-60 helicopter collecting water from a reservoir to fight a fire in the town of Carolina del Principe, in the department of Antioquia (northwest). .
