British driver Lando Norris has extended his contract with the McLaren team for several years, the British Formula 1 team announced this Friday.
“I grew up in McLaren and this is where I feel at home. The journey so far has been exciting. We’ve had our ups and downs, but last season we showed again our desire to fight for first place,” said Lando Norris.
McLaren said only that this is a “multi-year” agreement, so it must last until at least 2027, as the 24-year-old driver’s one-year contract did not expire until the end of 2025.
With this extension, speculation about a possible move of Lando Norris to Red Bull in place of Mexican Sergio Perez comes to an end.
American Zak Brown, chief executive of McLaren, is “delighted to be able to count on Lando Norris for many years to come.”
At 24, the Briton’s best result is seven second places in the five seasons he spent in Formula 1.
