PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos promised this Saturday in Porto that all tolls on old highways for users (SCUT) in the interior and in the Algarve will be waived free of charge.
“Over the past few years, we have made efforts to reduce tolls. We are not going to reduce tolls further in the interior of the country. We are going to abolish tolls in the interior of the country and in the Algarve,” said Pedro Nuno Santos. in Alfandega do Porto during the All Portugal Forum, where the PS election program was discussed.
According to the PS Secretary General, A4, A22, A23, A24 and A25 will be at stake.
“We have harmed a large part of the territory. We had no right to do this. We must restore justice and respect for those who live and work within the country,” says Pedro Nuno Santos.
The PS leader set a goal: “From Torres Novas to Castelo Branco, Covilha, Guarda, Viseu, then to Vila Real and Braganza, this route can be driven without paying tolls.”
According to a government decree, from the beginning of this year, for former SCUTs in the interior of the country and in the Algarve, prices for passenger cars have been reduced by up to 30% compared to prices before December 31.
According to the government, these new discounts applied to sections and sub-sections of Highway 22 (formerly SCUT do Algarve or Via do Infante), Highway 23 (in the interior of Beira), Highway 24 (in the interior of northern Beira) and Highway 25 (in the interior of Beira). Littoral/Beira Alta).
They now also have the same conditions to reduce toll rates on the former SCUT internal roads, sections and subsections of Highway 4 (A4) Transmontana and Tunnel do Marão, as well as on Highway 13 (A13) and A13-1 in the internal Pinhala area.
The government approved the measure to reduce travel fares on September 28, 2023.
These highways were considered free user roads (SCUTs) until 2011, when motorists began paying for them.
