“If someone awards me posthumously, I don’t want anyone to go there. Woe betide whoever it is that I come here and give him a couple of slaps. Statue? Why do dogs go and piss?” Pinto da Costa’s statement appears in the background interview of the program Primeira Pessoa, which RTP1 broadcasts in its entirety this Wednesday evening.
Porto’s president also points to Sergio Conceiço as a coach who will “make history” at the club. He also mentions Bobby Robson and Jose Mourinho as coaches who “marked him as people.” At least in the published extract there is no mention of Andre Villas-Boas, the champion coach and winner of the 2010/11 Europa League, who will face Pinto da Costa in the April elections.
In this dispute, Villas-Boas will put forward the name of José Pedro Pereira da Costa as the person responsible for the accounts. The former NOS chief executive left the company in December last year after ten years in the role.
How CM has already moved forward, Fernando Gomes is leaving and João Rafael Köhler will become Pinto da Costa’s new financial officer.
