Members of the PSP and GNR return this Wednesday to protest for better pay conditions, demanding an increase identical to that allocated to the judicial police, with a demonstration in Porto where thousands of police officers are expected.
Following last week’s demonstration in Lisbon, in which some 15,000 PSP police officers and GNR soldiers took part, the platform of 11 police unions and guard associations is organizing a new protest today, starting at 17:30 in Largo December 1 in Porto.
“We believe that in Porto we will have a huge and massive turnout of many thousands of police officers,” said Luse Bruno Pereira of Plataforma and president of the National Police Union (SNOP).
The PSP and GNR elements require a supplement identical to that allocated to the Judicial Police, since for more than three weeks they protested against the initiative of the PSP agent before the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon, which later spread to the entire country.
The demonstrations last week in Lisbon and today’s in Porto, which will take place between the headquarters of the PSP Metropolitan Command and Avenida dos Aliados, are organized by a platform made up of seven unions of the Public Security Police and four unions of the National Republican Party.
