The President of the Republic (PR) released this Thursday a diploma that envisages changes in the status of informal caregivers, although he considers these changes to be “below expectations”. Individuals who do not have a family connection to the person being cared for are now considered carers.
According to the new decree-law, unanimously approved by Parliament and promulgated by the Government, the status of informal carer is extended to people who have no family ties to the person receiving care, but they must live in the same household and provide care on a regular, although not permanent, basis. .
In a statement, Marcelo said the changes could go further because they do not apply to “neighbors who care about other neighbors.”
TO CMJorge Gonçalves of the National Association of Informal Educators emphasizes that “the diploma was approved inappropriately” because “it is indecent to extend the validity of the law but require that people live in the same house.”
