IL will continue to present the electoral program to the legislature this Saturday, a day of reflection in the Azores, and claims that it is “entirely within the law”, contrary to the position of the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
The CNE considered on Friday that the presentation of IL’s electoral program for the legislative elections scheduled for this Saturday constituted “propaganda prohibited by law” since it takes place on the day of reflection of the Azores regions.
Speaking to Lusa, IL parliamentary leader Rodrigo Saraiva denied this position to CNE and assured that the party will maintain this presentation, “which will be held with respect for the rule of law, the Constitution and the current legislation.”
“This is an event that is completely within the law,” he emphasized.
According to the liberal leader, the “only official notification” the party received was “from a meeting held a few days ago, which ends with a paragraph that clearly excludes any activity taking place outside the Autonomous Region of the Azores from the campaign ban.” “, citing a discussion on January 16.
“Given this objectivity in this decision of the CNE, we have confirmed what we already thought, that the event of presenting the electoral program in the legislative elections is entirely within the framework of the current legislation and even the Constitution,” he explained.
According to Rodrigo Saraiva, it is “an act of political freedom, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press and respect for the individual,” a refusal to infantilize voters whom he considered “able to distinguish what an act is in relation to legislative elections of anything.” especially for regional elections.”
Guaranteeing that at Saturday’s event the party will not “talk about anything specific regarding the Autonomous Region of the Azores or the regional elections”, the MP refers to an excerpt from the CNE’s response to Lusa, in which he considers it “a factor of surrealism in relation to the fact that which is already an anachronism of the permanent decisions” of this commission.
What we are talking about is that the CNE states that “IL’s electoral program will definitely not be announced with a clear indication that none of the proposed measures will be applied to the Autonomous Region of the Azores.”
For Rodrigo Saraiva, this is “a very interesting consideration, since the CNE seems to have the ability to see the future.”
“They are a bit forward-thinking and can know what will happen at an event the next day, therefore something that has not yet happened, and even draw conclusions about a document that has not yet been published,” he sneers.
For liberals, “the formal reading of the CNE is what is stated in the minutes of the meeting,” and that is “what is real.”
“In addition, we have points that are not true from the CNE representative,” he criticized.
According to the IL leader, it would be “interesting to ask the CNE what the direction of the vote was in relation to these answers given to Lusa,” noting that it was not unanimous, contrary to the decision of the meeting as stated in the aforementioned minutes.
“This clearly demonstrates who is very keen to try to disrupt the event of presenting the IL electoral program, which will be held with respect for the rule of law, the constitution and the existing legislation,” he insisted.
