The SDP/CDU/PPM coalition is approaching an absolute majority

Catholic projection gives victory Jose Manuel Bolheiro, for whom is expected to be counted between 40% and 45%. The PSD/CDU/PPM coalition will be able to elect from 25 to 31 deputies.

In second place is PS Açores, with between 32 and 37 percent of the votes. Chega is expected to take third place, marking an increase from last election.

The Liberal Initiative, Left Bloc, PAN and CDU have between 1% and 3% of the votes.

According to the preliminary results of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Paulo Estevan, leader of the PPM/Azores, and Lubeliu Mendonça were elected by the Corvo circle when 62 of 156 parishes were counted, a few minutes before 21:00 (20:00 in the Azores).

PS says everything is open and indicates a decrease in abstinence

The director of the PS Açores campaign considered everything to be open, commenting on the Catholic University’s RTP forecast, which gives victory to the PSD/CDU-PP/PPM coalition in the regional legislative elections, signaling a decrease in the number of abstentions.

“We conclude that everything is open. Within the results, there is a trend towards leadership on the part of the coalition. However, with a more detailed assessment of these indicators, one can see that everything is in fact open,” said Berto Messias at the hotel in Ponta Delgada, where PS Açores is headquartered on this election night.

The vice-president of PS Açores also noted that, according to the forecast, “there has been a centralization of information collection” on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira, “leaving the remaining islands without collecting information,” which is “very important data” for the party.

BE says “the game is not over yet”

Head of the election campaign B.E. Azoresa said this Sunday that the party will wait “calmly” for the final results of the regional legislative elections, saying that “the game is not over yet.”

“We will have to wait. As you know, parties with fewer votes often have to wait to see what outcome they actually have. It’s still a forecast and we don’t really know what the outcome will be,” he said. José Cascallo in statements to journalists at a hotel in Ponta Delgada, San Miguel, where the party has been staying since election night.

“In fact, the results, in our opinion, are not very good for the Azores, because everything points to a right-wing majority with the same policies and therefore a difficult situation for the Azores,” says José Cascallo.

Bloc’s campaign manager acknowledged that these projections were not expected results, but stressed that the final result would need to be “wait and see.”

“We’ll wait, we know it’s difficult because there’s actually a strong shift to the right being forecast,” he added.

Chega speaks of ‘great victory’ after forecast sees number of MPs doubling

Chega/Azores believed that this Sunday had won a “big victory” in the regional legislatures in response to the Catholic University’s RTP forecast that the party would have at least double the number of people elected in 2020.

“Whoever emerges victorious will definitely Chega […]. This can only be considered a great victory, a resounding victory for Chega tonight,” said the secretary general of the party’s regional structure, Oliveria Santos, at the premises of the Ponta Delgada Volunteer Firefighters, where the nomination marks election night.

PSD claims forecast shows Azoreans ‘don’t want a socialist government’

The Secretary General of the PSD of the Azores said this Sunday that the forecast of the Catholic University regarding the RTP, which gives victory to the PSD/CDU-PP/PPM coalition that currently governs the archipelago, means that the Azoreans “do not want a socialist government.”

“The exit poll, now published by the public service of Radio and Television of the Azores, leaves open the composition of the next parliament, giving a clear advantage to the PSD, PSD and PNM,” said Luis Pereira.
