One person was injured in a fire that occurred early this Wednesday in the internal medicine service department of the Santa Maria Hospital, the hospital department said, explaining that the fire was extinguished by specialists on duty.
In a statement, the board of directors of the Santa Maria Local Health Unit (ULS) regretted the impact of this incident and said the patient was transferred to the hospital’s own burn unit.
He also states that he is “in close contact” with the patient’s family, to whom he guarantees “all support.”
The Santa Maria ULS Board of Directors also emphasizes the “high professionalism” of the inpatient maintenance crews and other support units, emphasizing that their quick response prevented the fire outbreak from “acquiring even more serious proportions.”
The internal medicine department was being cleaned up Wednesday morning, and the remaining patients admitted there have been transferred to other departments within ULS itself.
The reasons for the incident are being clarified by the authorities, while an internal investigation is being conducted.
