A 55-year-old worker from the municipality of Montalegre was seriously injured this Wednesday morning as a result of an accident with the truck in which he was traveling in the industrial area of Salto, municipality of Montalegre.
According to Hernani Carvalho, commander of the Salto Volunteer Fire Department, the heavily loaded vehicle fell on its side and caused serious injuries to the driver, who was taken to Braga hospital.
The alarm was raised around 10am and Salto volunteer firefighters immediately rushed to the scene with nine first responders supported by three engines.
An INEM helicopter was deployed, but weather conditions prevented it from landing, and transport to the Braga hospital was provided with the support of the VMER at the Chavez Hospital.
A PNR patrol from the Montalegre territorial post and a Montalegre immediate life support ambulance were also at the scene.
