14 people were injured this Sunday after they were hit by tree branches while riding the Tomahawk roller coaster in Port Aventura, Catalonia.
Two of the victims are in serious condition.
According to the amusement park organization, the tree fell due to strong winds and the situation was “completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance” of the attraction.
“PortAventura World is monitoring the evolving health conditions of the victims and is fully prepared to provide the victims with the necessary assistance and support,” it said.
The seriously injured were taken to the Bellvitge Hospital in Barcelona and the John XXIII University Hospital in Tarragona by Emergency Medical Services helicopter.
Three other victims, in less serious condition, were taken to nearby centers, namely the Santa Tecla Hospital and the Hospital de Reus, also in Tarragona.
Catalan police announced the start of a technical investigation.
