Bad weather turned away revelers and ultimately disrupted several Carnival parades planned for this Sunday from the north to the south of the country.
In Lola, Figueira da Foz, Sesimbra, Mealhada and Elvas, parades were eventually cancelled. And yet there were those who could not resist going out to have fun. In Loures, the rain stopped in the afternoon, allowing the parade to be enjoyed with more than 2,500 extras and 15 floats.
In Nazaré, where celebrations were about to be cancelled, revelers took to the embankment and joined more than a thousand participants in a colorful parade. North American big wave surfer Garrett McNamara, who attended the event, did not go unnoticed, accompanied by his family.
In Sines, samba was danced, and in Torres Vedras, thousands of masked revelers, including the usual matrafons, celebrated the 101st anniversary of the country’s most Portuguese carnival.
The entertainment program will continue this Monday and Tuesday.
