Home rents rose 5.9% in January

Rents per square foot for a home rose 5.9% in January compared with the same month in 2023, accelerating from 5.1% in the previous month, with all regions seeing increases year-over-year, it said INE this Monday.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in January, “all regions saw positive year-on-year changes in house rents, with the North and Lisbon recording the strongest increases (6.1%).”

In monthly terms, the average rental price per square meter of housing registered a change of 1.4% (0.3% in the previous month).

The regions with the highest positive monthly change were the North and Algarve (1.5%), while there were no regions with a negative change in their respective average house rents.
