The PSP seized 15,260 doses of drugs and 44 firearms, as well as 26 bladed weapons, as part of Operation Safe Carnival, during which 13 people were arrested for possession of prohibited weapons.
Public Security Police detained 481 people, 117 for road offenses and 62 for drink driving, between 5 and 12 February during road checks carried out on the Portuguese mainland and in the autonomous regions. Azores and Madeira.
Fifty-five unlicensed drivers and 49 were arrested for drug trafficking, a number not listed in the PSP statement issued on Tuesday.
In the PSP area of responsibility, 1,187 road accidents were recorded, resulting in 351 minor injuries, five serious injuries and two deaths.
Since the start of the operation, the PSP has checked 11,290 drivers and monitored 54,450 vehicles using radar.
“A total of 2,681 administrative offenses were recorded, of which we highlight 512 for speeding, 78 for drunk driving, 249 for lack of mandatory periodic technical inspection, 79 for lack of civil liability insurance and 48 for using a mobile phone while driving,” – PSP explained.
Driving at excessive speed, which is one of the main causes of road accidents, accounted for 19% of the total number of confirmed violations.
“There were also 42 arrests made for property crimes and 170 bench warrants executed,” police added.
