Russian President Vladimir Putin this Wednesday expressed gratitude to American host Tucker Carlsson, who in a long interview allowed him to talk to the West, but also said that he was “not completely satisfied.”
“Since today we cannot have a direct dialogue (…), we should be grateful to Mr. Carlson for being able to do this through him,” said the Russian president, who, according to him, however, “is not completely “satisfied,” the first award to a Western journalist since the Russian offensive in Ukraine began about two years ago.
The interview aired this week and has received more than 200 million views on social network X (formerly Twitter).
Putin said he expects “aggressive” behavior and “tough questions” from the former Fox News host.
“I was not only ready, but I wanted it because it would give me the opportunity to respond in kind,” the Russian president said, noting the “amazing manner” in which Karlsson tried to interrupt him.
However, a government official praised the “patience” of the conservative presenter, who, in particular, listened to a long history lesson, according to AFP, a highly subjective one, from Vladimir Putin.
“But he was tough in his own way. According to his plan,” said Putin, who also complained that his words were then “distorted” in the West.
In this message, which lasted more than two hours, addressed to North Americans and Europeans, Putin, in particular, assured that Russian defeat in Ukraine is “impossible”, at the same time he said that he was ready for “dialogue” with the West.
