A man with a shovel managed to unblock the mouth of the Aljezur River at Amoreira Beach, which had been closed for several months due to siltation in the riverbed.
The river reconnected with the sea, which satisfied many beachgoers, since the water in the river was already rotting and many of the species growing at its mouth were dying.
On the other hand, standing water has caused many mosquitoes to appear. “The water is flowing again!!! The river has reconnected with the sea. Thanks to whoever built the canal,” said a resident of Alzhezur.
This intervention is usually carried out by the City Council of Aljezur in collaboration with the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Hydrographic Region Administration, using various human and technical means such as rotating machines and other heavy machinery.
However, this time the work was carried out by a man, presumably not a resident of the municipality, who began work after seeing that the water already smelled bad.
ABOUT morning Post asked António Carvalho, Aljezur city councilor responsible for the environment, but received no answer.
