An engine fire and smoke entering the cabin carrying 141 passengers forced an easyJet flight connecting Lisbon to Paris to make an emergency landing midway at Bilbao Airport in Spain.
According to CM It was revealed that 34 Year 12 students from Escola Secundária José Afonso in Seixal were on board on a study trip to Paris as part of the History subject. According to principal Andre Claro, who spoke with teachers accompanying the students shortly after the emergency landing, “everything is fine, and many did not even realize the situation.” He said another plane was planned to continue the journey. Parents of students contacted by their children claim that a fire broke out in one of the turbines.
According to local authorities, the alarm was raised by the plane’s pilot at 12:00 after smoke was detected in the cabin, which led to the activation of the emergency protocol. Dozens of firefighters and vehicles lined up on the runway at Loyou Airport to receive the Airbus 320, but the plane landed without any major problems. He stopped just outside the terminal access point where all the passengers got off. EasyJet confirmed the incident, saying that “a replacement aircraft has been scheduled to allow passengers to continue flying to Paris.”
