António Carvalho, 80, and Maria José Carvalho, 75, died at home in Terras de Boro, apparently due to poisoning resulting from a gas leak in the house where they lived after returning to Portugal for about five years .
An alert was issued to authorities at around 1:50 pm this Friday. When firefighters from Terras de Buro arrived at the house, which smelled strongly of gas, there was nothing that could be done. They would have been dead days ago.
For what morning Post As it turned out, on Sunday one of the two sons – both emigrated to America – called his parents, as was customary, and they no longer answered. Then on Tuesday my nephew called, but to no avail. Yesterday, a cleaning lady came across two already dead people lying on the floor and alerted the authorities.
The news shocked family and friends. “They were very close. I’m shocked,” said Maria do Ceu Montenegro, a friend of the couple who lives in the United States. The couple has two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
