The case of children taken from their mother has been reopened

The Lisbon Court of Appeal has ordered the retrial of two social welfare workers given suspended prison sentences and the payment of 118,000 euros in compensation to a woman who lost two daughters due to incorrect information provided by the defendants.

As Expresso reported this Friday, the judges upheld the appeals of the Ministry of Justice and the defendants Anabela Vieira and Sandra Batista, finding the decision “illogical.” Thus, a retrial would have to result in new hearings for the accused, the mother (plaintiff and co-litigator) and witnesses.

Let us recall that the receptions were condemned because the court considered that the victim lost her daughters due to both of them reporting that she had left her daughter alone in a cafe.
