Lula da Silva once again condemns Israel’s disproportionate response in the Gaza Strip

In a speech delivered this Saturday as a guest at the opening of the 37th summit of the African Union, which brings together heads of state and government from 55 countries, Brazilian President Lula da Silva once again condemned what he considers Israel’s disproportionate response to the bloody events. Hamas attacks on October 7. For Lula, a self-described humanitarian, the Hamas attack, which killed at least 1,300 people inside Israel, is as reprehensible as the brutal Israeli response, which he said killed mostly women and children. .

“To be a humanitarian today means condemning the attacks carried out by Hamas against Israeli civilians and demanding the immediate release of all hostages. children and forced the displacement of more than 80% of the population,” said Lula, who was applauded by leaders gathered at the summit, which runs until tomorrow, Sunday, in Addis Adeb, the Ethiopian capital.

According to the president, only the creation of a truly sovereign and internationally recognized Palestinian state can guarantee lasting peace in the region. And he warned that the creation and international recognition of this Palestinian state must be seen as an urgent solution.

“The solution to this crisis will only be lasting if we move quickly towards the creation of a free and sovereign Palestinian State, a Palestinian State recognized as a full member of the United Nations,” echoed the Brazilian head of state, who once again denounced the veto power held by the five countries in the UN Security Council and which, in his opinion, impedes the resolution of a number of conflicts in the world.
