GNR is once again involved in EU border control operations

This Monday, the Republican National Guard sent the coastal patrol boat “Bojador” to participate in an operation in Spain within the framework of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to control migratory flows and cross-border crime.

In a note published on Monday, GNR said this Coastal and Border Control Group (UCCF) mission will take place in two periods: from February 21 to April 17 and from June 12 to August 7 within the European Union. border control.

For this operation, 20 soldiers from the coastal patrol boat Bojador will be deployed to the area of ​​Almeria, Spain.

Since January 22, the crew has been undergoing training, including training in mission area characterization and security, maritime search and rescue, human rights, police self-defense and first aid, among other topics. which seem relevant for the projection of Force into the theater of operations.

The GNR emphasizes that between 2007 and 2023 it deployed more than 1,100 soldiers in various joint Frontex operations that “aim at preventing, detecting and suppressing cases of illegal migration, human trafficking and other border crimes, making a fundamental contribution to the protection of human life “

As part of maritime surveillance and the protection of human life, GNR says that since 2007 it has deployed more than 450 military personnel on different types of vessels, mainly in joint operations INDALO in Spain, THEMIS in Italy and POSEIDON. ” in Greece.

In terms of operational results, between 2016 and 2023, PPR forces rescued 4,231 migrants, detected 1,107 vessels, and intercepted 93.

“The purpose of the mission is to prevent, detect and suppress illegal activities related to drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal weapons trafficking, illegal fishing, falsification of documents, identification and registration of people, identification of accomplices, collection of information about the network of criminal activities, search and rescue operations , combating marine pollution, and also contribute to the protection of human lives at sea,” explains Guardia.
