The 19-year-old mother took her son to a hospital in Vigo on January 31 to have doctors treat injuries sustained as a result of the bite. At the hospital, doctors noticed that the victim also had a blow to the eye and already healed wounds on the ribs.
Doctors in their report refuted suspicions of child abuse, and the competent authorities began an investigation.
The judge ordered the father to be questioned, but he fled the day the mother took the child to the hospital. The suspect was hiding in Tui until he was arrested on Saturday for child abuse.
After appearing before a judge, he was released with an obligation to appear in court every 15 days, an order for removal of the victim and termination of parental rights.
Social services determined that the minor lived in inadequate conditions and that the family had few resources.
