This Friday, the Brazilian press reported that Wilson Fittipaldi Junior, former Formula 1 driver and older brother of two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, has died. He was 80 years old.
“Vilsinho”, as he was known, was the father of Christian Fittipalda, who also briefly competed in Formula One, the uncle of Emmo Fittipaldi, and the great-uncle of Pietro and Enzo Fittipaldi, the latter of whom was a Haas reserve driver in Formula One and a former racing driver. Globo Esporte reports that Wilson Fittipaldi had been in hospital in Sao Paulo since December when he choked on a piece of meat. He went into cardiac arrest and was hospitalized and intubated.
He later underwent a tracheotomy, was extubated, and on January 16 was transferred from intensive care to a hospital ward. This morning he suffered a cardiac arrest and died.
