Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease Lower in Men Taking Viagra

The investigation involved 270,000 British men over 40, all of whom were diagnosed with erectile dysfunction between 2000 and 2017.

These men’s health status and medications were followed for at least one year, although they were followed for an average of 5.1 years.

The study included 1,119 men who were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but the researchers concluded that those who took Viagra or similar medications had an 18% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, those who took Viagra more often had a 44% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Despite the conclusion that there is a link between Viagra and a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease, the study does not prove a cause-and-effect relationship. This could simply mean that those who use Viagra are more physically active men, knowing that physical activity is also associated with a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
