Nine areas are under an orange warning between Monday and Tuesday due to disturbances at sea, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said.
An orange warning, the second most severe on a three-point scale, was activated in the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria and Braga at 00:49 and was in effect until 00:00 Tuesday. In Aveiro and Coimbra it will last another three hours, IPMA said.
In the districts of Faro and Beja, the orange warning is in effect from 15:00 to 6:00 on Tuesday, and in Lisbon from 6:00 until the same time the next day.
During this period, IPMA forecasts “northwesterly waves of significant height between five and six metres, reaching a maximum height of 11 metres”.
