The CAV and Navarra present the lowest risk rates of social exclusion in the entire State

The AROPE rate—percentage of population at risk of poverty or social exclusion—has been placed in the 15.5% in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) in 2023, slightly improving the previous year’s figure (15.7%). In Navarra, it was placed in the 17.2%although it is worth highlighting the increase of almost three points detected in the last year – in 2022, it was 14.5%.

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) published this Monday the data from the Living Conditions Survey. According to 2023 data, both the CAV and Navarra present the lowest rates of the entire Spanish State, which has an average of 26.5%.

In the specific case of risk of poverty, in Euskadi it affects 10.2% of the population, while 13.8% of the Navarrese population suffers from it. The evolution of this rate has been positive in the case of the BAC (it has fallen from 12.2%), but negative in the case of the regional community (it was at 10.9%). Once again, Euskadi repeats with the lowest rate in the entire Spanish State (it is almost double, 20.9%), while in this case Navarra is third, behind Madrid.

Other indicators of living conditions have had an uneven evolution in Hego Euskal Herria. In the BAC, now 5.6% of households have many difficulties making ends meet, compared to 4.1% the previous year. In Navarra, this data has improved almost one point from 6.6% in 2022 to the current 5.7.

There has also been an increase in the number of families cannot cope with unforeseen expenses, since it has gone from 20.1% to 21.4% in Euskadi. Navarra has experienced a greater increase (they were 20.1% in 2022, and now they are 26.1%). Almost one in five inhabitants of the BAC (18.8%) can’t go on vacation away from home at least one week a year. In Navarra the percentage is even higher, 22.6%.

In any case, living conditions are better than in the State as a whole, where 33.1% cannot go on vacation, 37.1% cannot afford unforeseen expenses, 13.6% incur payment delays and 9.3% suffer a lot to make ends meet.
