The President of the Liberal Initiative (IL) on Tuesday considered that the presence on Monday of former Prime Minister Passos Coelho in the Democratic Alliance (AD) election campaign was “completely normal”, without giving him “too much importance for reading politics”.
“I understand that the participation of former leaders is completely normal, it is part of these campaigns. In the Liberal Initiative, not only do we have former leaders participating, but we even have two former leaders leading the list. [Carlos Guimarães Pinto, pelo Porto, e João Cotrim de Figueiredo às eleições europeias] and therefore this is part of it,” said Rui Rocha after a meeting at the Southern Farmers Association in Beja.
The Liberal leader said he does not attach “too much importance in political reading” to Passos Coelho’s presence in the AD campaign.
“It’s not for me to do this reading. The leadership of the SDP must know what its path is, where it is, because, essentially, I am not very interested in political readings, because I have a clear proposal.” on various issues,” he said.
And as for whether the appearance of Passos Coelho in the AD campaign represents any change, Rui Rocha understood that the PSD is the one who must respond to it, because IL is “really focused on changing the country since March 10.”
Rui Rocha also emphasized that IL has a huge advantage in these elections because its positions are clear, the Portuguese know what they can count on, who they understand and who they do not understand.
And this, he emphasized, means that IL does not have to talk about the scenarios in which she finds herself every day, because they are understandable.
“Therefore, the concern is not on our side, but on the side of those who do not have such a vision and ambitions,” he emphasized.
The Liberal Initiative’s vision is “absolutely clear” and other political parties need to do their homework, he stressed.
Asked whether he voted for Passos Coelho in 2011 and 2015, the Liberal leader answered in the affirmative, but said that he would “of course” vote for IL this Tuesday.
