The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) said this Thursday that, “despite attacks and attacks,” it is the Ministry of State (MP) that must ensure compliance with the law and be immune “to any pressure or interference, direct or indirect.”
Lucília Gago spoke at the opening ceremony of the Congress of the Union of Magistrates of the Ministry of State (SMMP), which takes place in Ponta Delgada, Azores, from Thursday to March 2.
While the MP’s investigations into the “Influencer” and “Madeira” cases have prompted internal and external criticism of the public ministry, the PGR warned that we are currently seeing “a resumption of themes that arise cyclically, in addition to the paradox of others, never before not raised, the purpose of which is to discredit the investigations and those who lead them.”
“The extraordinary abundance of important recent events, generating a whirlwind of commentary, questions and interpellations, is confusing for some, overwhelming for others, increasing the noise and creating hopelessness,” PGR said at the beginning of his speech.
According to Lucilia Gago, important events recorded in polls involving public figures “received inevitable coverage in the media and, as a consequence, aroused or revived the intensity of passions.”
“We are faced and are being haunted by new questions about the adequacy of the means used and the ‘timing’ of the procedures,” PGR said, noting that the intention was to blame PGR and MP as “mainly responsible for the darkest pages.” judicial reality” in which we live today.
In this regard, PGR agreed with recent statements by the President of the Supreme Court on the need for judicial systems to demonstrate “solidity, efficiency and absolute immunity from attempts at unlawful intrusion or conditioning by political power” and appealed to all Congressmen that “perseverance and clairvoyance never never stopped developing diligently.”
Lucília Gago emphasized that her presence at this event represents “a clear sign of closeness and solidarity with the judges, as well as a reassuring commitment to a positive future for the MP and the judge.”
However, he acknowledged that Justice requires “increased resources, modernization and confirmation, whether because of its greater readiness or because of the substance of the results achieved.”
The GRR also spoke about the need to consolidate the financial autonomy of the deputy, emphasizing that “only this will ensure the allocation of the resources necessary to effectively combat crime, especially the most serious, most reprehensible and cruel.”
He also emphasized that “only financial autonomy will also ensure the effective autonomy of the deputy in relation to other powers of the state.”
