Durau Barroso will be a guest this Friday at the AD rally in Santa Maria da Feira.

The former PSD leader and former President of the European Commission will be a guest this Friday at the AD rally in Santa Maria da Feira (Aveiro district), an official PSD source told Lusa.

The rally is scheduled for 9pm at the Europark and the former prime minister’s participation comes four days after another former PSD leader, Pedro Passos Coelho, gave a speech in Faro.

On Thursday it was the turn of former CDS-PP leader Assunção Cristas to speak in Ourem (Santarem district).

Durau Barroso, in an article published this Friday in the weekly newspaper Nascer do Sol and entitled “Change is necessary”, argues that “after everything that has happened to the PS government and also after everything that has not been done during this very long period , changing the political cycle in Portugal is important.”

“The truth is that the current government, despite the fact that it claims to be socialist, has developed policies that, although statist, are very little social: we are witnessing a deep degradation of public services, namely health and education, and There is also a widespread housing crisis with very serious social costs, especially for young people,” he argues.

The former prime minister believes that the new PS government “will be the most left-wing since Gonsalvise”, linking the announcement to what he calls an alarming external situation, the war in Ukraine and Portugal’s “external relations” with the European Union and NATO. and the positions of the PCP and BE, possible partners in socialist governance.

Durau Barroso was leader of the PSD from May 1999 to June 2004, prime minister from April 2002 to July 2004, and president of the European Commission from 2004 to 2014.

The former ruler had already attended the PSD Summer University in early September.

He served in the government of Cavaco Silva, where he was Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior in 1985, Secretary of State for External Relations and Cooperation in 1987, and Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1992.
