Revenue and Customs warned this Friday that taxpayers are receiving false text messages (SMS) asking them to call a number that someone answers and identifies as an AT employee.
Among the examples of false messages shared by AT is one which states that “unauthorized access has been detected” to a “banking institution”, with the taxpayer being “informed” that they should call the telephone number 300505977 if this has not been done those that have “access”.
Once that number is established, “the call will be answered by someone identifying themselves as an AT representative,” which is false, the warning says, emphasizing that messages of this type should be deleted immediately.
This is the second safety alert AT has issued since the start of the year, adding to the 12 issued last year and the eight recorded so far in 2022.
