Comedian Nilton revealed on social media that he was the target of an attempted “Hello Father, Hello Mother” scam – a scheme that is claiming more and more victims in Portugal.
“I got a ‘Hey Dad’ message from the daughter I never had,” he said in a video posted to Instagram titled “I Found Out I Have a Daughter.”
Nilton says the WhatsApp number asked him for €998.50 and then €715. Having realized this scheme, the comedian decided to confuse the scammers and, using Photoshop, created images of fake payment receipts and sent them to the appropriate number.
The comedian responded to the situation with humor, but warned about the dangers associated with such schemes, especially with the development of technology.
“It’s important to communicate this. Stopping these scams will become increasingly difficult with the development of artificial intelligence, which imitates voices and faces,” he said.
