The Kremlin repeated its accusations of “direct Western interference” in Ukraine following the publication of communications between German officials about arms supplies to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that information shared on social networks, including posts, “once again shows the direct involvement of the West in the conflict in Ukraine.”
“The recording (sound recording) shows that within the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) there are detailed and specific discussions of plans that will be carried out against Russian territory,” he added.
Peskov’s accusation was made simultaneously with the summons of the German Ambassador to the Russian Foreign Ministry to Moscow.
According to Russian news agencies, Ambassador Alexander Graf Lambsdorf left the ministry building without commenting on the situation.
An audio recording of a remote meeting of senior German officers was published last Friday on Russian social networks.
On Saturday, Berlin confirmed that the recording was genuine and that it had been intercepted. In the audio recording, the participants discuss the possibility of supplying German-made Taurus long-range missiles to Kyiv.
Agence France-Presse wrote on Monday that the “conversation is extremely awkward” for Germany, as Berlin officially refuses to supply Taurus missiles to Kyiv, citing the risk of escalating the conflict.
