A 55-year-old fan was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Sunday in Marinha Grande for insulting and threatening the referee of the match between SLE Marinha and Associação Beneditense CD.
The insults occurred near the away bench, where the man addressed the match referee. When authorities approached him, the detainee intimidated the agents and was warned.
The fan was immediately arrested and expelled from the sports venue, receiving a notice to appear at the Marinha Grande Public Ministry.
“The Leiria District Command believes that the preparedness of the police has increased the effectiveness of the fight against sports-related crimes and crimes against public authority and thus contributed to the rapid restoration of public peace and tranquility, in this case at a public event.
