At 22:05, the MH-1 nanosatellite integrated into the Eros mission was launched from the Space X base in Vandenberg, USA.

It is the second Portuguese satellite launched after PoSat-1, which entered orbit in September 1993 and was deactivated ten years later.

The project began in 2020 and involved a national consortium of several companies and academic institutions.

The consortium is led by Thales Edisoft Portugal.

MH-1’s mission is to observe the oceans. Communication and collection of images and data will be carried out from the Santa Maria teleport in the Azores.

The lift-off of the 4.5-kilogram rocket was watched enthusiastically by hundreds of people gathered at the CEiiA engineering center in Matosinhos, where they heard cheers and applause at the success of Portugal’s second satellite – the first to be designed, built and operated in Portugal.

According to the national consortium of companies and academic institutions that developed the project, the plant was named “MH-1” in honor of Manuel Heitor, the former minister of science, technology and higher education, who, while in office, was one of the initiators of the project. built and operates the satellite.
