A 13-year-old Palestinian shot and killed two people (father and son) in Jerusalem on Saturday after another gunman killed seven outside a synagogue in the eastern Holy City, occupied by Israel after the 1967 war.
The perpetrator of Saturday’s attack was stopped by Israeli citizens and then arrested and detained.
According to official sources, Israel has beefed up security in Jerusalem with a counterterrorism unit that will be “permanent” in the area “to respond to exceptional events when needed.”
Meanwhile, 42 people linked to Khaire Alkam, a 21-year-old Palestinian killed in Friday’s massacre near a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood that left two people in critical condition, have been detained. Alcam lived in East Jerusalem and reportedly ambushed believers when they came to the synagogue for early Shabbat prayer.
Recall that the escalation of tension began after the attack by Israeli special forces, which resulted in the death of nine people in Jenin on Wednesday.
