The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, recalled this Saturday that no one can “replace the will of the people,” making it clear that “giving up weapons is the worst solution.” On the eve of the elections, the head of state emphasized the importance of voting and called on the Portuguese to come to the polls on Sunday.
Marcelo considered the need to speed up the recovery of the Portuguese economy as one of the common challenges between the 2022 and 2024 elections.
The President of the Republic also touched on the impact of wars on areas such as health, housing and education, warning that they have created a “waiting period” and prevented the “much-desired recovery” of the post-Covid-19 period.
“In times like these, when wars have reignited economic and trade wars that we had hoped would have been overcome by the end of the pandemic, these are the times when it is most important to vote,” the head of state said.
“Only your voice decides, only your voice chooses,” he concluded.
