A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday in Nazaré, Leiria district, after insulting, spitting and hitting a police officer, the PSP said this Sunday in a statement.
The arrest occurred at 9:55 a.m. at the restaurant, where the suspect was questioning customers after he was asked to leave the establishment, to which he reacted “aggressively, uttering inconspicuous words,” police describe.
Once outside the establishment, the man “continued to be agitated and uncooperative, approaching officers and spitting at them,” before “unpredictably and violently striking one of the officers twice,” the statement continues.
After the arrestee “pulled and attempted to restrain two other agents” who were on the scene, “it became necessary to resort to the hands-free technique using strictly necessary force to attempt to stop the conduct and make the arrest.” , says the police.
“The man continued to actively resist and attack the police officers involved, striking them,” resulting in one of the police officers being transported and examined at Santo Andre Hospital in Leiria.
“After examination in the hospital, the policeman was discharged and continued on duty,” the PSP statement said.
The detainee was presented to the judicial authority in the shift court of Peniche on Saturday and a coercive measure was applied to him in the form of weekly presentations.
