This Sunday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) placed a yellow warning in all areas of mainland Portugal due to a cold weather forecast for the coming days.
In ten districts in the north and center, the yellow alert went into effect at 6:56 p.m. Sunday and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, according to the IPMA statement.
This group includes the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Bragança, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra and Leiria.
In turn, the districts of Castelo Branco, Santarém, Lisbon, Setubal, Portalegre, Évora, Beja and Faro are also under yellow warning from 18:56 on Sunday, but until 06:00 on Wednesday, February 1st.
In the communiqué, IPMA justifies this decision by “maintaining low minimum temperatures”.
The IPMA forecast for Monday predicts minimum temperatures of 6 degrees (Faro) to minus 6 degrees (Guarda).
