Polish farmers allowed some trucks to enter Ukraine

Polish farmers blocking the Dorohusk checkpoint on the border with Ukraine announced on Wednesday that they would allow trucks into Ukraine but would continue to block goods from entering Poland.

Polish farmers have been blocking border checkpoints for more than a month to protest Ukrainian imports, which they say are driving down prices in Poland and hurting their profits.

The blockade caused long traffic jams on both sides of the border.

According to Polish customs, the waiting time at the Dorohusk checkpoint on Wednesday morning was about 120 hours, and earlier this week it reached 400 hours.

The organizers of the blockades specified that they would unblock the checkpoint and temporarily open the border.

“This is our gesture towards the Ukrainian drivers so that they can return to their families, to their country,” said Wojciech Los, a protest leader at the Dorohusk checkpoint.

Los stressed, however, that despite this decision, farmers will not suspend or end their protest and will continue to prevent the entry of trucks coming from Ukraine and heading to Poland, awaiting the position of the Polish government.

Poland remains a strong ally of Ukraine, but growing economic differences have worsened relations between the two neighboring countries, and Kyiv has repeatedly asked Warsaw to ease cross-border traffic.

The Polish government has begun negotiations with farmers, but a solution to the dispute has not yet been found.
