Portugal is among more than 50 countries that support a proposed UN General Assembly resolution drafted by the United States advocating safe artificial intelligence (AI) systems for sustainable development.
North American Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, supported by 54 co-sponsors including Portugal and the European Union, in a statement released this Friday, said that AI “has enormous potential to shape economies, societies and the world for the better” and that these benefits should be distributed equally to all countries, with an emphasis on developing countries.
In this sense, the United States has submitted a resolution to the United Nations General Assembly that aims to formulate a common approach to artificial intelligence systems.
