Home delivery company Glovo announced today that it will lay off 250 employees, about 6.5% of its workforce, in a decision that management calls “necessary” and does not affect operations in Portugal.
In a message sent to a worker and quoted by Efe, Glovo chairman Oscar Pierre says these cuts “were not in the plans six months ago” and that they are inevitable for the good development of the company. .
“We have been trying to avoid layoffs at all costs by evaluating various scenarios, reducing costs and improving economic efficiency over the past nine months in order to pave the way for the future,” said the head of a company owned by the German group Delivery Hero.
At the moment, layoffs do not affect employees and do not affect activity in Portugal.
“In Portugal, we will not have any impact and we do not foresee any disruption to our operations,” the company said in a statement sent to Luza, in which she adds that her commitment remains “unchanged.”
Glovo added in a statement that the decision would have a major impact on the company’s Barcelona headquarters.
“This decision will affect mainly our headquarters in Barcelona, in the areas of business support, recruitment and data. This decision will only affect a few local markets, with cuts limited to single digits,” the note repeats, emphasizing that “neither the courier, the picker, nor the front-line employee will be affected.”
Glovo also ensures that affected workers are already informed.
