The PSP arrested the man on Sunday evening in Alges, municipality of Oeiras, with an arrest warrant and sentenced him to six years and nine months in prison, security forces said.
The 41-year-old was found guilty of offenses committed in 2022, “namely kidnapping, skilled theft and sexual assault of an incapacitated person, for which he was also sentenced to prison for six years and nine months.” writes the publication. PSP in a statement sent to Lusa.
Police found the suspect in the Alges area as part of a group of people, he continued.
“After this, an operational action was launched that allowed for a safe approach, subjecting those present to competent police measures, while simultaneously allowing the suspect to be surprised and detained,” the same note says.
The man was taken to the Caxias prison to serve his sentence.
In the same note, PSP recalled that the Center for Wanted and Missing Persons had recently been created, a unit designed to “find persons sentenced to more serious sentences and who have so far remained outside the attention of the police system.”
