On Saturday, a 45-year-old man broke into his ex-partner’s home in Coimbra with the intention of setting it on fire. After several attacks, the suspect doused them both with gasoline. The victim managed to escape and turn to neighbors for help. A resident told CM who managed to subdue the man before PSP arrived. “A woman in her underwear ran out into the street asking for help. I managed to immobilize the man and take away bottles of flammable liquid, lighters and matches from him,” said Rui Manuel.
After the episode of violence, the attacker swallowed sulfuric acid and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he remained in the custody of the PSP on Sunday. The victim was also given medical assistance. The youngest son, 10 years old, witnessed the attack.
