Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his re-election in last weekend’s presidential elections and again offered to mediate in the conflict with Ukraine, the Turkish administration said.
“President Erdogan assessed that the positive development of relations between Turkey and Russia will continue, and stated that Turkey is ready to play a facilitating role in their establishment. [Rússia] to the negotiating table with Ukraine,” the Turkish presidency said in a press release, reproducing the contents of a telephone conversation between the two leaders.
The Turkish head of state, who has maintained relations with both Kiev and Moscow since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, has offered several times to mediate a negotiated way out of the conflict between the two countries, which share a Black Sea border with Turkey.
