Today Costa begins meetings in Brussels involving the European Commission and NATO.

Outgoing Prime Minister Antonio Costa will meet on Wednesday and Friday with the President of the European Commission, the NATO Secretary General and the President of the European Parliament, as well as his German counterpart in Brussels.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, this round of contacts “with some of the main European figures with whom he has worked most” will serve António Costa with “a message of gratitude for the work built in good coordination over the past years.” eight years”.

Antonio Costa will take part in the European Council meeting from Thursday to Friday, which will in principle be his last as prime minister.

On Wednesday morning he will meet European Commission Vice-President Margrethe Vestager and College of Europe rector Federica Mogherini, the former EU high representative for foreign affairs.

In the morning, the Prime Minister held two meetings with Commissioners for Economic and Monetary Affairs Paolo Gentiloni and for Employment and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit, who is also the main candidate of the European Socialists for the presidency of the next commission.

In the afternoon, António Costa will meet with Community President Ursula von der Leyen, Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, and at the end of the day he will have a meeting at the European Parliament with the institution’s President Roberta Metsola.

Later this Wednesday, the Prime Minister will open a photo exhibition in Brussels entitled “Europe with us!”, and is also scheduled to meet with Elisa Ferreira, the Portuguese Commissioner in charge of Cohesion.

On Thursday morning, the outgoing prime minister will meet North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the Atlantic Alliance headquarters.

This is followed by a meeting of the European Council, and early on Friday morning he meets German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and attends a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the European Economic Area.
