Tourist arrivals to Basque hotels grow by 4.4% in February

The entries of tourists in hotel establishments in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) they have grown in February 4.4% compared to the same month in 2023 until reaching 222,106; Overnight stays increased by 1.9%, to 408,489.

The Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat, published this Wednesday data from the survey it carries out monthly in hotels. These data account for the good evolution of the tourism sector outside of the actual holiday season, which also registered increases of 3% in January.

Another relevant fact is that a third of the arrivals (33.7%) were people from other countries7.8% more than in 2023.

Alava is once again the territory that is growing the most, with 5.9% more visitors (a total of 29,467) and 8.6% more overnight stays (65,123). However, Bizkaia leads in volume of visitors (100,198 visitors) and stays (180,399 overnight stays), closely followed by Gipuzkoa (92,441 and 162,967, respectively).

By capitalsthe number of entries has grown similarly in San Sebastián (8.6%) and Vitoria-Gasteiz (8.5%), and to a lesser extent in Bilbao (2.9%).

Thus, the occupancy rate per hotel room stood at 44%, slightly lower than in 2023. The average stay was 1.84 days, slightly lower than that observed in the same month of the previous year, which was 1.88. days.
